5 am OR 6 am

It seems interesting, but the “right” time keeps becoming earlier and earlier?

And please don’t make me try 4 am. I think I am good and so are the rest of the people that are sleep-deprived. (sleep hours vary per person)

I have tried all of the times ranging from 5 am-12 pm. Hey I need to catch up on sleep during the weekends, no judgements please haha. There is that question and idea circulating around the media about all the benefits and effects of waking up early. You can go to YouTube. Heck you can even see it on Medium.

I personally have loved waking up early, and let me tell you. That was never me. I have a 9 am class, and I wake up at 6. Normal people, well the majority of college students, can wake up and get to class perfectly on time even if they wake up at 8.

So why have I been playing around with my snooze button just to wake up early? Because I tried it, and fell in love with 6. Of course it isn’t just because of my lucky number 3 and 6. I used to love working at 12 am. That was my hour to just go off and get s*** done. That was the peak time for my mental and physical level. I would do all my homework and studying at 12. And because of sleeping late, I would wake up late. But one day everything changed.

I watch this really cool guy on YouTube and listen to his podcasts every now and then. This YouTuber is Matt D’Avella and let me just say he is cool. He has an awesome perspective of the world and is always trying new things. In the process of finding the right thing for him, he will experiment with different challenges. And he analyses his progress and the effects it has on him. Because of him I have tried new things, and I have opened my world to new ideas. He has much more content on his channel, all amazing and funny. Totally go check him out. (links below to two different mornings.)

He has a lot of good tips of how he wakes up, and I use a lot of them. One of the tips is to make a list. Everyone needs a reason and purpose for waking up early. And for me, it is to get some self-care or planning done to get the day on a positive and organized mindset. I have a morning routine and night routine list that I just cross off to make sure I am doing the things that I want and actually doing it at a great time.

We all have our own schedules, and our own way of how we do things. I never did. For me, I would just do things after I finished watching all the YouTube videos I saved on my Watch Later or finished cleaning my whole house. I always tried to find different things to do, so I wouldn’t have to do the other things. Well, yea that was probably the main reason I did horrible in high school. I didn’t plan ahead or have a set schedule. Everything happened on a whim and was procrastination.

Then, I became a college student. I kinda needed to get my s@@@ together, so I had to sit down and ponder. I needed to think and plan my schedule out. What time do I have class? When do I have time to study? What days do I have clubs? There is always something going on, and having everything written down or on Google Calendar allows me to know what I need to accomplish or go to.

At first I tried 5 and let me tell you. I didn’t get up. I slept straight through the alarm and snooze button. Of course, I didn’t just give up. I tried it for a week, and I actually started to train my body to wake up. And I would get stuff done.

But, it didn’t work out for me. Not only did I annoy my brother and parents when I accidentally dropped my phone, but also I wasn’t feeling it. I wasn’t feeling the need to wake up so early. I switched it up by trying 6, and that worked for me. I found the perfect amount of time and gave myself extra time just incase I hit snooze a couple of time.

The difference for me was comfort.

Now I am going to be honest, I sometimes wake up at 12 (weekends, bc I need to go to class of course). I give myself breaks because I am human. I can’t listen to my alarm clock everyday. It’s all a learning process, and we just learn more and more about ourselves everyday.

What I am trying to say is, the time is different for everyone. Some wake up at 5, and some wake up at 6. We all have different schedules and jobs, and we will wake up accordingly. We do what works for us. Some people don’t need a schedule or a morning routine, and they are successful and happy.

The people that enforced early mornings on social platforms allowed more people to gain more insight and inspiration. It allowed people to try it out and see if it works for them. I was also one of the conformists. I wanted to add a routine to my life because successful people like CEOs sweared by an early routine. Many people felt they got work done in the morning, and they were also able to give some time for themselves. I wanted to try that, too.

My new organized system has allowed me to wake up and get my personal stuff done, and make SOME PROGRESS in my educational life. So, I wake up at 6. I am not perfect at it. I still wake up late, and I still throw my phone across the room. But I am working on it. And you should try it out, too. Remember: Do what works for you!

I am going to keep waking up at 6 and not 5 or 4 or 3…
